New Tormek Knife Sharpening Kit

A Better Way to Sharpen Knives on a Tormek

If you’ve spent any time sharpening a knife, you’ve probably had an experience like this:

You sharpen the knife, and it turns out great, exactly what you were hoping for. But then the next time you sharpen, the edge just isn’t quite so good. Same sharpeners, same process, but a different result.

That’s something we’ve seen over and over again over the past 20 years. Both in our own sharpening and in helping customers. The new Tormek Knife Sharpening Kit sets out to solve this problem.

Where Things Start to Break Down

When people are getting inconsistent results, it usually comes down to three things:

  • How the knife is being held
  • How the angle is being set
  • Not know what is actually happening at the edge.

If any one of those is off, even slightly, it shows up in the final result.

What the Tormek Knife Sharpening Kit Does

Hold the Knife Steady

For most knives, the Tormek KJ-45 Centering Knife Jig is the one you’ll use the most. It centers the blade automatically, which makes it much easier to get even bevels on both sides.

For longer, more flexible knives, the Tormek KJ-140 Wide Knife Jig gives you a wider clamp and more stability. If you’ve ever felt a blade flex while sharpening, you’ll immediately notice the difference here.

And for smaller knives, like pocket knives, carving knives, any knife where the blade is too small to clamp, the Tormek SVM-00 Small Knife Holder holds them securely. The Small Knife Holder then clamps into the Centering Knife Jig.

Together, these three jigs give you a consistent way to hold just about any knife you’re working on.

Accurately Set the Sharpening Angle

The next piece is setting the angle. This is where a lot of sharpening turns into guesswork but the Tormek KS-123 Knife Angle Setter takes that guesswork out. It lets you set your sharpening angle precisely, and it accounts for things like blade width and wheel diameter so you can repeat that angle consistently. But setting the angle is only part of it.

You also need a way to confirm that you’re actually sharpening where you think you are. That’s where something as simple as a marker comes in. Coloring in the bevel gives you immediate feedback, you can see exactly where you’re removing material. And the loupe lets you take that one step further. You can inspect the edge, check for a burr, and see your scratch pattern up close.

Once you can see what’s happening, sharpening starts to make a lot more sense.

Expands What Your Tormek Can Do

Tormek MB-102 Multi Base

The last piece is how everything works with the machine itself. The Tormek MB-102 Multi Base gives you more flexibility in how you position your universal support. That opens up additional sharpening positions, including working off the flat face of diamond wheels, and makes it easier to use the knife jigs on the honing wheel. It’s one of those accessories you might question the usefulness of at first, but once you start to use it, it becomes part of your regular setup.

Who This Kit Is For

This kit is designed for knife sharpening on the Tormek T-8 and T-4, as well as older modesl such as the T-7, T-3, and 2000. It’s especially useful if:
