If you’re interested in improving your sharpening, we are proud to officially recommend the sharpening classes hosted by our good friend and customer, Dennis, at Heirloom Craftsman.

He just posted his updated class list to his website, and currently there are openings available for his Basic Hand Tool Sharpening and Advanced Hand Tool Sharpening classes, starting February 28th and March 28th respectively.

Dennis is a true craftsman. Having studied under world‑renowned instructors in England and being the only U.S.-based member of the British Antique Furniture Restorers' Association (BAFRA), Dennis brings a level of expertise to hand tool woodworking that is truly rare today.

Dennis has recently moved into a beautiful new shop space in downtown Mt. Horeb, and he is opening his doors to students. His classes are small (limited to just 6 students), ensuring you get the personal attention needed to refine your technique.

What You Can Learn

• Basic Hand Tool Sharpening: If you’re struggling with your chisels or plane irons, this is where to start. Dennis walks you through the process using oil, water, and diamond stones.
• Advanced Hand Tool Sharpening: Ready to free yourself from the honing guide? This class focuses on free‑hand sharpening, a skill that translates into better control over all your woodworking tasks.
• Intro to Hand Tool Woodworking: Dennis teaches the foundational skills of using hand saws, chisels, and planes.
• The Joinery Series: From Mortise & Tenon to the legendary Dovetail joint, these classes teach some of the most important joints in furniture making.
