DMT Dia-Mag System

The DMT Dia-Mag Plate with Magnetic Base operates as a system. It has multiple diamond grits in an easily storable and packable size. Thin, double-sided diamond abrasive plates are held in place on a magnetic base. Simply flip or change plates to change grits. It's a great size for knife or tool sharpening, in a compact, light weight package.

Two Grits on One Plate

This package comes with one  Fine 600 Grit / Coarse 325 Grit Plate. Of the four total grits available, this combination is considered to be the most general purpose. This is DMT's continuous surface plate. Diamonds cover the entire surface of the plate with no interruptions.

Thoughtful DMT Design

The Dia-Mag system features DMT's expected thoughtful and practical design. The base is 8" x 2 5/8", the same size as the Dia-Mag Abrasive Plates. Five non-slip rubber feet are attached to the bottom of the base for stability. A notch in one end of the base allows easy removal of plates for fast and convenient changes.

Additional Dia-Mag Plates and Dia-Mag Bases are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are the grits on the Dia-Sharp stones the same as on the other color coded DMT stones?

A. Yes. Even though they lack the color coding, the grits are the same on the continuous surface Dia-Sharp stones as on the interrupted surface DuoSharp stones.

Q. Are diamond stones really made of diamond?

A. Yes, our DMT® diamond stones are made of diamond. These monocrystalline diamonds are man-made diamonds. The largest and coarsest diamonds in the DMT® sharpening line are 120 microns in size while the smallest are 3 microns in size.

Q. What is a monocrystalline diamond and why is that important?

A. Monocrystalline diamonds are diamonds of high quality that are not fractured. These diamonds are uniformly sized. DMT® bonds these to a nickel backing to provide a long-lasting very flat surface. The alternative is to use polycrystalline diamonds. The less expensive polycrystalline diamonds are fractured and will not wear as long as the higher quality monocrystalline.

Q. What do you recommend as a lubricant for diamond stones?

A. We recommend water on diamond stones for lubrication and to wash away the swarf. It works well, is easy to clean up, and is readily available.
