Tormek US-430 Extended Universal Support for Long Blades
Long Blades Need a Long Support Like the US-430
Sometimes You Need To Sharpen a Long Blade
With 18" of sharpened blade length, this machete is a long blade. The US-430 Extended Universal Support makes it possible to sharpen a long blade like this without repositioning the blade in the jig. And it works on both the T-4 and the Tormek T-8.
When the Standard Guide Isn't Long Enough
The US-105 Universal Support that comes with the T-8 is great for knives with up to about 12" of sharpened blade length. The US-103 Universal Support that comes with the T-4 will handle a little less than that. However, longer blades present a challenge. To sharpen them requires repositioning the blade in the jig. For example, here the SVM-45 Knife Jig is at one extreme of the Standard Universal Support, but the end of the blade hasn't been reached yet.
Likewise, here the jig is at the other extreme of the Standard Universal Support but there is still more blade to sharpen. To sharpen this entire machete on the Standard Universal Support would require repositioning the blade in the jig and sharpening it in two or more sections.
The US-430 Extended Universal Support Handles Longer Blades
The US-430 Extended Universal Support is over 5 inches longer than the Standard Support. This extra length allows for greater side to side travel of the jig to support longer blades. For example, here the handle end of the blade has been reached and the jig is still on the support.
And likewise the tip of the blade is reached with the jig still supported. No repositioning of the jig on the machete is required.
Convenience for Long Blades
Tormek grinders are great tools for sharpening a wide variety of knives and tools. But sometimes a blade is too long to sharpen without repositioning the jig on the blade. For those cases, the US-430 provides the extra length needed.
