Sharpening a Knife Using the Aligner
How to Sharpen a Knife Using the DMT Aligner
The DMT Aligner maintains a consistent sharpening angle, taking the guesswork out of sharpening. Choose from seven different settings to get your perfect edge. You can set the bevel guide closer to the clamp for a sharper edge, or you can set it farther away for a more durable edge. Follow these step-by-step instructions to take advantage of your Aligner kit:
Step 1: Loosen the thumb screw on the clamp.
Step 2: While holding the knife handle, place the clamp over the middle of the knife blade's back edge.
Step 3: Rest the back of the clamp on a table and tighten the thumb screw until the knife is secure within the clamp.
Step 4: Adjust the bevel guides to one of seven settings. Now you're ready to sharpen.
Step 5: Pick up the clamp and your preferred stone and gently glide stone from point A to point B. Lift the stone to point C and gently glide the stone to point D. Continue this stroke along the length of the knife's edge.
Step 6: Turn the knife over to sharpen the other side. (Make sure your bevel guides are on the same settings)
Step 7: Finish the edge with one long stroke on each side of the blade.
Step 8: If desired, switch to a finer stone to continue the sharpening process.
Step 9: When done, carefully loosen the thumb screw and remove your sharpened knife from the clamp.
