Tormek Gouge Jig
- Latest Version of the SVD-186 Gouge Jig
- New Screw Locks Rotary Movement
The Tormek Gouge Jig usually needs no introduction to Wood Turners, this jig alone is reason enough to own a Tormek. Even skilled turners may freehand sharpen their tools on a grinder but may save their finest bowl and spindle gouges for their Tormek Gouge Jig. This jig can turn a novice into a gouge sharpening expert in a few minutes.
The SVD-186R is the latest edition of the Tormek Gouge Jig. A newly incorporated locking screw allows you to lock the jig's rotary movement. With this feature, it is easier to maintain full control when sharpening carving V-tools. This feature also facilitates making completely flat bevels on violin maker's knives and v tools by using the MB-100 Multi Base to work on the flat face of a Tormek Diamond Wheel.
The jig comprises a tool holder (1) which runs in a sleeve (2). The tool is aligned with a disc (4) and tightened with a knob screw (5). There is a washer (6) for wide gouges. The stop ring (7) can be set for a convex bevel with a screw (8).
The tool holder can be set in any position from 0 to 5 with the 5 mm allen key (9). The setting can be noted on a special recipe label (10), which is attached to the ferrule. A special pen, which works on these labels is included (11). For turning cutters there is a shaft (12) with a mounting screw (13) and a 2,5 mm allen key (14).
The SVD186 is usually used in conjunction with the TTS100 Turning Tool Setter to ensure the most accurate set up possible.
