The Tormek SJ-250 Japanese Waterstone is 4000 grit and delivers a very fine finish. It is used to create the sharpest edges on your knives and tools.
For the Sharpest Edges and Mirror Finishes
The Tormek Japanese Waterstone excels at final honing for carving tools, knives, scissors, plane irons and wood chisels where a superior surface finish is demanded. Coupled with the LA-220 Leather Honing Wheel and PA-70 Honing Compound, the SJ-250 Japanese Waterstone leaves a mirror finish and and incredibly sharp edge.
Use Between the Standard Grinding Wheel and Leather Honing Wheel
At 4000 grit, this wheel falls in between the 220/1000 grit Standard Grinding Wheel and the 8000 grit Compound on the Leather Honing Wheel. It is best used as an intermediate step between the Standard Grinding Wheel and the Leather Honing Wheel with Compound, although in some cases, the Standard Grinding Wheel step can be skipped if you are maintaining a "nearly there" edge.
Use Edge Trailing
We recommend using the SJ-250 Japanese Waterstone with it in an edge trailing position, rotating away from you as you work. this wheel is a bit more brittle than the Standard Grindstone and using it rotating away from you as you work can help prevent the blade catching.
Keep it Clean
It is advisable to clean the stone surface of steel particles every minute or so with the fine side of the SP-650 Stone Grader. Do not use the coarse side of the Stone Grader on the SJ-250 Japanese Waterstone.
For the T-8, T-7 and SuperGrind 2000
This wheel fits the Tormek T-8, Tormek T-7 and 2000 models. It measures 10" in diameter and 2" wide. For metric folks, that is 250MM x 50MM.
