An Economical Kit for Sharpening

We created this kit to provide a cost effective sharpening stone with a good solid base to work from. The base lifts the stone off your work surface to provide your hands plenty of clearance. The rubber feet keep the stone firmly planted in place. When you are done sharpening, just close the lid and your stone can be put away until your knives need another touch up on the sharpening stone. The stone featured in this kit is Norton's hard-to-find Medium India and Soft Arkansas combination stone. The stone measures 8" x 2" x 3/4". The kit contains a 4.5 oz. container of oil for use with the stone.

The Medium India Side
The Norton India stone is an oilstone made with aluminum oxide abrasive. This side features the Medium India grit. This side is great on dull knives, it is used prior to the Soft Arkansas side.

The Soft Arkansas Side
The Soft Arkansas stone is made of a stone called novaculite. Made of almost pure silica, the stone makes a great surface for sharpening knives and tools. The Soft Arkansas stone is finer than the Medium India side. Because this is a natural stone, the color of the stone varies.

Q. What are the grits of the Fine, Medium and Coarse in the Norton India stones?

A. The Coarse India is 150 grit, the Medium India is 240 grit and the Fine India is 400 grit. Please see our Norton Grit Chart for more information.
