A Great Grinding Wheel For Woodturning Tools and other High Speed Steel Tool
The Norton K-Grade is a harder wheel that keeps its shape better than softer wheels. The harder grade is great for sharpening high speed steel tools without wearing grooves in the wheel. If you're a turner, you know what we're talking about. However, the harder wheel isn't for all situations, as we recommend the softer Norton I-grade Wheel for high carbon steel tool grinding applications. This wheel is available in a 46 grit for coarse work and a 80 grit for finer work. The 8" wheel has a 1" arbor hole with bushings for 7/8", 3/4" and 5/8" arbors and is rated for 3600 rpm. The 6" wheels have a 1" arbor hole with bushings for 7/8", 3/4", 5/8" and 1/2" arbors and are rated for 5410 rpm.

Q#. Do you recommend this K grade wheel for turning tools?
A#. Yes, turning tools are made of high speed steel. High speed steel has greater heat resistance so the harder compound of this K grade wheel won't overheat the tool. The harder wheel is recommended because it will not groove or lose its shape as a softer wheel might do with turning tools.
Q#. Is this wheel good for high carbon steel tools?
A#. No, we don't recommend it for high carbon steel tools. The harder wheel will more easily overheat high carbon steel found on tools such as chisels and plane irons. For high carbon steel we recommend the softer Norton I grade Wheel.
