Innovative Design

The NL-6 uses diamond abrasives, but with creative differences. The diamonds are coated onto raised structures arranged in a carefully planned pattern. The primary cutting action occurs on the edges of the raised, diamond-coated structures. The particular pattern used on the NL-6 has star and hexagon structures that present many such edges to remove material evenly and efficiently. The gaps between the raised areas allow waste material to be flushed away, keeping the stone from clogging. Solid bands of diamonds on both ends avoid a sudden drop off during flattening which protects the stars from chipping.

For Flattening Fine Water Stones

The 60μm (approximately 220 grit) abrasives on the NL-6 arranged in their unique pattern make it particularly suited to flattening medium to fine grit water stones, primarily those from 35μm to 0.5μm (400 grit to 30,000 grit range). It can be used for coarser grits, but may be slower and leave a smoother surface texture than desired. For flattening coarser grit water stones, consider the Nano hone NL-4 Flattening Stone.

Handheld or Mounted

The Nano-Hone NL-6 Lapping Plate is 9-7/16" (240mm) long x 3-1/16" (80mm) wide. Finger grooves in the sides of the plate make holding it in hand and moving it over a stationary water stone easy. The 1.87lb (816g) NL-6 can also be left stationary for water stones to be moved over it. Holes in the bottom of the NL-6 plate allow it to be mounted on the Nano Hone Stone Stage.
