Fine Grit Ceramic
The Messermeister Ceramic Steel is made of solid aluminum oxide ceramic in 1200 grit. Ideal for keeping knives at their sharpest. It is wear resistant, lightweight and non porous.
Messermeister Quality
Messermeister is well known for their quality and this ceramic steel is no exception. The 9/16" diameter (14mm) rod is a solid piece of aluminum oxide ceramic. Choose between a 10" and 12" length to fit your knives. The ABS handle is generous and sturdy for a safe, comfortable grip.
10" Ceramic Steel is 14-1/2" Overall Length
12" Ceramic Steel is 17-1/2" Overall Length
Q. If it's made of ceramic, why is it called a steel?
A. Sharpeners like this were traditionally made of a steel rod on a handle, and so they were simply called steels. Indeed many fine steels are still made of steel. However, the name steel has come to be applied to any sharpener in the form of a rod with a handle. So now there are steel, ceramic and even diamond steels.
Q. How long of a steel should I use?
A. Ideally you want it to be 2" longer than your longest knife. For practical reasons, we suggest that a 10" is good for most home kitchens. The 12" is excellent but will often not fit in a knife block.
