Compensate for Different Stone Thicknesses

If you demand the most precise, consistent angles in your sharpening, you should consider the Edge Pro BevelTech Drill Stop Collar.

Using multiple stones in your sharpening process on a guided sharpener like the Edge Pro BevelTech can introduce subtle variations in the sharpening angle. The unique thickness of each stone can throw off the actual angle of contact with the blade. The Edge Pro BevelTech Drill Stop Collar offers a quick and easy way to compensate for different stone thicknesses to ensure precise, consistent angles.

Using the Stop Collar is straightforward.

Install the Stop Collar

Remove the shaft from your BevelTech Sharpener and slide the Stop Collar onto the shaft. Then reinsert the shaft so that the Stop Collar is between the sharpening platform and the arm pivot.

Select Your Angle

Then select your desired sharpening angle, either by using the laser etched markings on the shaft of the BevelTech Sharpener, or by using a Digital Angle Guide on the arm of the sharpener.

Pinch the First Stone

Next, place the first stone you will sharpen with on the sharpening platform next to the shaft. Lower the Stop Collar until the stone is pinched between the sharpening platform and the Stop Collar.

Once the Stop Collar is set, it does not move.

Now go ahead and install the first stone on the arm and proceed to sharpen.

Move the Platform to Pinch Each Subsequent Stone

With each subsequent stone in your sharpening progression, move the platform so that the new stone is pinched between it and the Stop Collar. Remember that the Stop Collar does not move.

Once the platform is positioned, install the stone on the sharpening arm and proceed with the sharpening.

For the BevelTech Sharpener

The Stop Collar works on the the BevelTech Kit #1, BevelTech Kit #2, BevelTech Kit #3, and BevelTech Kit #4. It has a 1/2" inside diameter and will not work on the Apex or Professional models. This durable collar comes with a thumb screw that you can loosen and tighten by hand.
