Abrasive Plates for Dia-Mag Base
The DMT Dia-Mag Double-Sided Abrasive Plates are intended for use with the Dia-Mag Magnetic Base. These are the same as the plates that are included with the Dia-Mag Plate with Base.
DMT Dia-Mag System
The DMT Dia-Mag Plates operate as part of the Dia-Mag system. Each plate has two diamond grits in an easily storable and packable size. These thin, double-sided diamond abrasive plates are held in place on the DMT Dia-Mag Magnetic Base. Simply flip or change plates to change grits. It's a great size for knife or tool sharpening, in a compact, light weight package.
Choose your Grits
We have three grit options for Dia-Mag Plates:
- Fine 600 Grit / Coarse 325 Grit
- Extra-Fine 1200 Grit / Fine 600 Grit
- Coarse 325 Grit / Extra-Coarse 220 Grit
These are DMT's continuous surface plates. Diamonds cover the entire surface of the plate with no interruptions.
Thoughtful DMT Design
The Dia-Mag Abrasive Plates feature DMT's expected thoughtful and practical design. The plates are 8" x 2 5/8", the same size as the Dia-Mag Magnetic Base. The plates sit firmly on the stable base and are easily changed.
The Dia-Mag Bases are available individually and well as Dia-Mag Plates with a Base.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Are the grits on the Dia-Sharp stones the same as on the other color coded DMT stones?
A. Yes. Even though they lack the color coding, the grits are the same on the continuous surface Dia-Sharp stones as on the interrupted surface DuoSharp stones.
Q. Are diamond stones really made of diamond?
A. Yes, our DMT® diamond stones are made of diamond. These monocrystalline diamonds are man-made diamonds. The largest and coarsest diamonds in the DMT® sharpening line are 120 microns in size while the smallest are 3 microns in size.
Q. What is a monocrystalline diamond and why is that important?
A. Monocrystalline diamonds are diamonds of high quality that are not fractured. These diamonds are uniformly sized. DMT® bonds these to a nickel backing to provide a long-lasting very flat surface. The alternative is to use polycrystalline diamonds. The less expensive polycrystalline diamonds are fractured and will not wear as long as the higher quality monocrystalline.
Q. What do you recommend as a lubricant for diamond stones?
A. We recommend water on diamond stones for lubrication and to wash away the swarf. It works well, is easy to clean up, and is readily available.
