  • Sharpening Supplies 8" XL Water Stones
  • 220, 1000, and 6000 Grits
  • 10" x 6" Double-Sided Flattening Stone
  • Water Stones and Double-Sided Flattening Stone - Made in America

This set was designed to work together. It includes three Sharpening Supplies Water Stones, the 220, 1000, and 6000 grit, and the large 10" x 6" Double-Sided Flattening Stone. The water stones were chosen because they provide a optimal progression of grits to achieve a very sharp edge and the flattening stone is essential for maintaining your water stones.

    Set of 3 Water Stones

Wood Box for Water Stones Fast Cutting and Hard Wearing

These are well balanced stones. They emphasize fast cutting action, some of the fastest we have seen. Yet they also keep their shape well, not requiring excessive resurfacing.

While the combination of fast cutting and hard wearing sounds pretty straight forward, it's actually a trick to pull off. With sharpening stones, there is a delicate balance between speed of cutting and ability to hold flatness. The two features don’t always go hand-in-hand. Often, stones are fast, precisely because they break down quickly and expose fresh grit when used. Stones that don't break down as quickly on the other hand sacrifice some speed of cutting for the benefit of holding their shape longer. We're very pleased with how our Water Stones balance the two attributes.

    Harder Bond

Sharpening Supplies Water Stones are constructed with a vitrified bond rather than a resin bond. We find that this gives them a responsive feel in use. You can feel the cutting action while using these stones. They feel firm, not muddy or soft like some other water stones.

They are a soaking stone, and do need to be placed in water for 10-20 minutes until saturated before use. However, unlike other stones that discourage storage in water, the bond of Sharpening Supplies Water Stones will not degrade with long term water contact giving you the option to store them in water if you prefer.

    3 Matched Grits

We designed the set so the three grits would make a good matched set. The 220 is an aggressive stone for dull edges. The 1000 grit is used after the 220 or as a starting point for only moderately dull edges. The 6000 grit is a very fine stone and provides a very polished edge that will cut extremely well.

    Generous Size

The water stones each measure 8" x 2-3/4" and at a full 1" thickness, they have plenty of service life in them.

Each water stone comes in its own wooden box. Handsome and practical for transportation, or keeping them safe and organized in longer term storage. We recommend allowing the stones to dry completely before storing them long term in the box.

    USA Made

We believe in sourcing American-made products, so we're proud to say that our Water Stones are made right here in the USA.

A Must-Have for Water Stone Maintenance

Maintaining water stones is essential for achieving precise sharpening results, and a high-quality flattening stone ensures they remain level and sharpening effectively. This 10"x6" Double-Sided Flattening Stone provides 120 square inches of total workspace, deep grooves for efficient debris removal, and two grits (120 and 320) for fast and smooth stone maintenance.

Whether you need aggressive leveling or a refined surface finish, this flattening stone for water stones delivers outstanding flattening performance.

Dual Grit Silicon Carbide: 120 Grit & 320 Grit

This double-sided flattening stone is made with Silicon Carbide, a fast cutting abrasive, capable of flattening any water stone. The flattening stone has two distinct sides to meet all your flattening needs:

    • 120 grit (Coarse side): Fast leveling of an out-of-flat water stone, quickly restoring their flat surface for optimal sharpening.
    • 320 grit (Fine side): Removing light wear and leaves a smooth finish on fine water stones.

Deep Grooves for Efficient Water Stone Flattening

The deep diagonal grooves on both sides of the flattening stone provide important channels to keep waste material flowing. Deep grooves prevents the waste material from building up and clogging the stone, allowing for greater flattening efficiency.

    Extra-Large Flattening Surface

The 10" x 6" size of Double-Sided Flattening Stone offers a huge working area of 60 square inches per side. That's 120 square inches total between the two sides. With a surface this large you can flatten any water stone with ease without running out of room.

Need a More Compact Option? If you do think that the 10" x 6" stone is too large for your sharpening setup, check out our 9" x 3" Double-Sided Flattening Stone for a space-saving alternative.

    Use Flattening Stone With Water

To get the best results, always use plenty of water when flattening with the Double-Sided Flattening Stone. Soak the flattening stone for several minutes before use, and continue to add water as necessary during use to keep the waste material flowing away from the flattening surface.

    Proudly Made in the USA

This USA-made flattening stone is crafted with high-quality abrasives for durability and long-lasting performance. Designed for serious sharpeners, it ensures your water stones stay in top condition for the best sharpening results.
