Crystolon Stones The Norton Crystolon Stones are made from silicon carbide (SiC). These stones are available in coarse, medium and fine grits. Norton's Crystolon stones are sold in shades of gray in color (the lighter stones are fine while the darker stones are darker gray. The Norton Crystolon stones are sometimes called Carborundum stones.
