The Right Stone for Every Sharpening Job
Some sharpening jobs need a coarse stone. Others just need a few passes on a fine one. With this four-stone DMT kit, you'll have the right grit for either job, whether you're repairing a damaged edge or keeping your everyday knives and tools sharp.
The kit includes four 6" diamond whetstones, ranging from Extra Coarse to Extra Fine. Together, they give you a complete range of grits for sharpening everything from pocket knives and kitchen knives to chisels and other woodworking tools.
Having four separate stones makes it easy to move between grits as you sharpen. Each stone has its own non-slip rubber feet, so you can simply set down one stone and pick up the next.

Four Grits, Four Different Jobs
Each stone serves a different purpose, so you can start with the grit that's right for the condition of your edge.
- Extra Coarse (Black, 220 mesh): For repairing chipped or damaged edges, changing bevel angles, and removing metal quickly. This is the stone to reach for when an edge needs significant work.
- Coarse (Blue, 325 mesh): For restoring very dull knives and tools. It removes metal quickly to establish a sharp edge before moving to finer grits.
- Fine (Red, 600 mesh): For routine sharpening and maintaining your knives and tools. This is a versatile grit that can bring a slightly dull knife back to a sharp, usable edge.
- Extra Fine (Green, 1200 mesh): For refining and polishing an already sharp edge. Use it after the Fine stone when you want an even finer cutting edge.
You don't need to use all four stones every time you sharpen. A slightly dull knife might only need the Fine stone, while a badly damaged edge may benefit from starting with Extra Coarse and progressing through the finer grits.
The Extra Coarse stone is particularly useful to have on hand for those occasional jobs that require removing a lot of metal. You may not need it every day, but when you do, it can save considerable sharpening time.
Why Choose DMT Diamond Whetstones?
DMT's monocrystalline diamond abrasives cut quickly, even on hard knife steels. Unlike traditional water stones, diamond stones remain flat through normal sharpening use, so there's no need to periodically flatten them.
DMT's interrupted diamond surface has a distinctive pattern of recessed areas that collect the metal filings created during sharpening. This helps keep the abrasive surface clear so the diamonds can continue cutting efficiently.
Diamond stones are also easy to use and maintain. There's no need to soak them before sharpening or use oil. They can be used dry, although we recommend using water to help carry away metal filings. Simply rinse and dry the stones after sharpening.
A Practical Size for Everyday Sharpening
At 6" long and 2" wide, these stones offer a useful balance between sharpening surface and portability. They're large enough for many common sharpening tasks, but compact enough to carry in a toolbox or take into the field.
The 6" size works particularly well for pocket knives, smaller kitchen knives, chisels, and other woodworking tools. If you regularly sharpen larger kitchen knives or long blades, you may prefer the additional working surface of an 8" stone.
Each stone has rubber feet to help keep it securely in place while sharpening. All four stones fit into the included plastic storage case, keeping them organized and easy to transport.
