New Design! The Knife Guide now accommodates all blade thicknesses.
The DMT® Knife Sharpening Guide can be used with any type of sharpening stone to provide a consistent angle. Keeping a consistent angle is absolutely critical if you’re trying to achieve a truly sharp knife edge. To use this sharpening guide, just clamp the knife and fine-tune the angle adjusters to the proper angle. Once you’ve set up your angles the sharpening guide will keep your knife at the proper angle to the stone.
There are seven settings on the Sharpening Guide. The angle you need will depend on the knife you are using, the height of the stone, and the setting you choose. With the seven settings you will have more than enough options to sharpen your knife at the proper angle. Made in the USA.

Q. I have a very thick knife, what is the maximum blade thickness that the DMT Knife Sharpening Guide can handle?
A. We have tested it with knives as thick as 1/4" thick at the spine of the blade. The vast majority of knives are well under 1/4" thick. Only large hunting knives or certain custom knives tend to have spines close to 1/4" thick. There is a brass screw on the front of the guide that can be loosened to accommodate larger blades.
Q. Can the DMT Knife Sharpening Guide clamp on to very small knives?
A. It can accommodate most knives, even smaller knives. However, there is a practical limit because on smaller knives sharpened at lower angles, the clamp could come in contact with the stone. This is an issue for small carving knives that are sharpened at lower angles than most knives. Small knives, even small blades on pockets knives can be accommodated with ease.
