Introducing the Mighty Sharpening Stone
The Largest Stone on The Market
Every year at this time we dig deep to develop and bring to market the most innovative products the sharpening world has ever seen. After already bringing you two extreme sharpening products, the 1 Grit Stone and the 1 Million Grit Stone, we determined the needs of the discerning sharpener were still not being met. This year we diligently researched the market and concluded that sharpeners need a larger stone than what is currently available. Not wanting to disappoint our loyal customers, we took the challenge very seriously and set out to develop a stone that would dwarf the competition.
When Big Isn't Big Enough, We Bring You the Mighty Sharpening Stone
In our tireless research we found that the standard sharpening stone isn't always long enough, wide enough, or thick enough for the most extreme sharpener. Our goal was to design a stone that would address the size issue once and for all. After months of hard work, we are extremely proud to introduce the Mighty Sharpening Stone. This massive stone measures 42" long x 18" wide x 18" high. The monolithic stone is guaranteed to exceed the size expectations of even the most demanding sharpener. Previously, our largest stone was the Norton 12" x 2 ½" x 1 ½" Combination Crystolon Stone. While the Norton stone is large and heavy with a weight of 2.75 pounds, it is downright diminutive by comparison to our newest introduction. The Mighty Stone weighs in at a mighty 798 pounds!
Manufacturing a Monolith
It proved challenging finding a facility that could properly produce the Mighty Sharpening Stone, but we eventually looked to the auto industry as they routinely manufacture 3000+ pound vehicles. After a painstaking search, we started up production at the decommissioned 4,800,000 square foot General Motors Automobile Plant just down the road from us in Janesville, Wisconsin. With an abundance of idle heavy machinery, mammoth vehicle assembly lines and towering forklifts, we had the necessary equipment and space needed to proceed with manufacturing our colossal stones.
The process of making the Mighty Stone is obviously different from an ordinary sharpening stone. The heat and pressure required to bind the stone far exceeds the typical small stone manufacturing processes. Being in a retired automobile plant proved fortuitous in our search for a suitable press that could produce the required force. We discovered a large stamping press used in making body panels for the Chevrolet C10. Other reclaimed machines were used to create the oversized mold.
Quality to Last Generations
The Mighty Stone is guaranteed to provide many lifetimes of use. A typical sharpening stone often lasts one lifetime, but the Mighty Stone is 567 times the mass of a typical 8" x 3" x 1" stone. You no longer have to worry that your son's great-grandson will wear out the stone you handed down. The Mighty Sharpening Stone is certain to be an heirloom for dozens of generations of sharpeners.
Mighty Stone Mover
No Stone Holder Required
Ordinary sharpening stones often require a stone holder with rubber feet to keep them in place because they aren’t heavy enough. The Mighty Sharpening Stone uses good old fashioned mass and gravity to ensure that it doesn’t move around, and therefore does not require a stone holder. However, an optional Mighty Stone Mover is a highly recommended and useful add-on for safely and securely moving your stone. The mover will come in handy for transporting the stone between its storage place and your sharpening station. The Mighty Stone Mover is made of out of powder coated thick-walled tubular steel with high capacity pneumatic tires.
Delivery Specifications
Our standard stones are delivered by the US Postal Service or FedEx, but those delivery services are not equipped to handle this hulking stone. All deliveries of the Mighty Sharpening Stone are made by LTL Freight and require lift gate service. If you have not opted for the optional Mighty Stone Mover, you may want to enlist the help of 10-12 well-fed friends to move the stone to your desired location after delivery.
