Spill Plane

This is a spill plane. Most hand planes are used to smooth wood and the shavings are a byproduct. With the spill plane, the product is the shavings, called spills. Traditionally, spills are used to carry fire from one fire source to another. I use my spills in place of paper to start backyard fires.
