Which Guided Knife Sharpening System should I get?

At Sharpening Supplies, we offer guided knife sharpening systems from three manufacturers: DMT, Lansky and Gatco.

Each company's system offers different features and options, and all are available in different packages. Knife sharpeners often ask us which system they should get. The answer depends on their individual needs. We have created the following chart to help you decide which will best fit your needs.

What angles can I sharpen my knife to with each Guided Sharpening System?

The systems all have multiple positions for achieving different bevel angles. Bear in mind however that the guide position is not the only factor that affects the bevel angle. Thicker blades will result in steeper angles. The width of the blade plays an important role as well.

The blade's width also affects the usability of some guide positions. With narrow blades, the clamp that holds the blade can interfere with the stone's ability to contact the edge.

For information on angles and the usability of each system by blade width, see the following: Guided Knife Sharpening System Angles.
