The Round Arkansas File has many uses for sharpening knives and tools. Any inside curved edge, whether it is the inside of the gullet on a bread knife or the gentle sweep of a carving gouge is most easily sharpened with a round abrasive stone or abrasive file.

Serrated Knives
Some bread knives have larger gullets that are easily sharpened with the Round Abrasive File. The smaller 1/4" Round Arkansas File works very well when touching up these knives. Just measure the points of the serrations, if they are greater than 1/4" then the round file will work well.

Carving Tools
If you sharpen carving tools you know how difficult it can be to find a good slip stone for the larger gouges. Most slip stones have relatively small diameters and are not very long. While the smaller 4" round works on smaller gouges, the larger 6" round with the 1/2" diameter works well on many larger gouges or even small gouges with very gentle sweeps.

The Round Arkansas file is available in a smaller 4" length with 1/4" diameter and the larger 6" length with 1/2" diameter.
